Customs & Immigration:
A passport is not necessary for U.S. citizens to enter into Canada, but must have proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate.
A resident alien card is necessary for non-citizen residents of the U.S.. Also, some countries require special visas. Check with the nearest Canadian Consulate office for more information.

GST Rebates:

While visiting Canada, keep your receipts, as you are allowed a refund on the Goods and Service Taxes you paid on your short term stay (less then 30 days) and on most gifts and items over $50.00. Your maximum claim can be up to $500.00, but some restrictions do apply.

The exchange rate is continually changing day by day for foreign currency. Most local businesses will accept U.S. Currency at their going rate. Ask the business what their rate of exchange is prior to your purchase.
Financial institutions and currency exchanges will give you that days international rate of exchange.

A duty free store is conveniently located at the base of the Peace Bridge, just before you exit out of Canada, for last minute purchases.
The Peace Bridge Duty Free Shoppe has product such as alcohol, tobacco, perfume and jewelry as well as some souvenirs.

Ontario Liquor Laws:

Fort Erie's liquor and beer stores are open daily except Sundays. The legal drinking age is 19 and proof of age may be asked for.

Postage Information:

Postage for letters or postcards up to 30 grams is $0.46 within Canada, $0.52 to the U.S. and to overseas countries $0.90 for up to 20 grams.
